September marks a growth of 46 5%
Thursday - 06th October 2005 |
Visitor's coming to Nepal by air reached a total of 27,511, marking a growth of 46.5% in the month of September 2005 compared to the same period last year. The growth was substantiated by a huge increase in Indian visitor's arrival by 151.6% coupled with the growth of non-Indian visitors segment by 23.1%. This figure came as an improvement of 16% even with the corresponding figures of 2003 September. This was stated in the figures released by Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation quoting Immigration Office Tribhuvan International Airport.
A huge surge came from Asian segment where arrivals from SAARC grew up by 153% with bigger contribution from Bangladesh (298%) and India. Except the Taiwanese market all other Asian market grew tremendously. Japanese arrival recovered by 9% after declining for the last two consecutive months. Arrivals from China (64.8%), Malaysia (32.2%) and Thailand (254.5%) all showed a robust growth.
The European segment increased by 12.3% with major markets Germany (11.4%) and UK (33%) showing some degree of improvement while France (-1.2%) observing some decline. Arrivals from Israel (36.4%), Italy (12%) and Belgium (36.6%) went up whereas Spanish (-0.7%) and Dutch (-12.5%) both went down. The US market continued to perform positively by 3.7% while arrivals from Australia went down by 11.6%.
The encouraging growth of September arrivals is largely because of the low base figure in September 2004. However, certain growth has really been achieved. The rush in Indian visitors arrival is largely influenced by the attractive Casino package launched in the market as well as effective connectivity of the Indo-Nepal sector. The picking up of non-Indian market is the clear indication of increasing confidence towards the destination. The improvement of security and safety conditions in the country as well as absence of negative stories about Nepal have added to the growth
Speaking about the increased figures NTB CEO Mr. Tek Bahadur Dangi commented, ' In an improving booking trend and absence of cancellations, it is clear to see the gradual rise of confidence building from markets towards the destination. This is true both in the case of trade and consumer'. The cancellation trend has been declining since February. Some agents have observed not a single cancellation in recent months. ' We are trying to focus more on positive media coverage on Nepal. Our recent organization of press trip to Manang is an example of this.'
